Nova Scotia\u2019s auditor general wants the provincial government to withdraw a bill<\/a> that allows her to be fired without cause.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kim Adair told reporters today the proposed changes threaten her independence and permit the government to veto the release of \u201cany report it doesn\u2019t like.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

An auditor can be removed with the assent of two-thirds of the legislature, but the government\u2019s bill would drop the requirement<\/strong> that just cause be provided before the termination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bill would also give the government the power to withhold auditor general reports<\/a> for reasons of public interest, public safety or legal privilege.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
