Here\u2019s what Alberta is still doing in \u2018pristine viewscapes\u2019&#8221; &#8212; The Narwhal\" src=\"https:\/\/thenarwhal.ca\/alberta-renewable-wind-energy-buffer-zones\/embed\/#?secret=k6LOhuq2If#?secret=CKORf07Mic\" data-secret=\"CKORf07Mic\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Alberta government has said wind energy projects have a negative impact on \u201cunobstructed, natural landscapes\u201d and has banned new turbines along all of Alberta\u2019s eastern slopes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>With wind energy likely off the table in large swaths of the province \u2014 and new restrictions on solar farms in others \u2014 here\u2019s a look at some of the things Albertans&nbsp;<em>can<\/em>&nbsp;still do in those \u201cunobstructed, natural landscapes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1. Urban sprawl is continuing in Alberta\u2019s draft \u2018pristine viewscape\u2019 regions<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. Logging applications are ongoing in Kananaskis Country \u2014 now off limits to new wind energy projects<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3. A new pulp mill is being celebrated by the government just outside of Jasper National Park<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4. Coal mining is not explicitly prohibited under Alberta\u2019s new draft \u2018pristine viewscape\u2019 plans<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>5. There are no blanket bans on what landowners can do with their land, from RV storage fields to mega mansions<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>6. Drilling for oil and gas continues across much of the province, including in wind energy no-go zones<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>7.
