The Conservatives have updated their English Language Platform to include the party\u2019s promised crackdown on \u201cwoke ideology.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The \u201canti-woke\u201d promise intends to \u201cput an end to the imposition of the woke ideology in the federal public service and in the allocation of federal funds for university research.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n


But what does he mean by \u201cwoke,\u201d exactly? The Conservative leader doesn\u2019t seem keen to define the term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last month, the Canadian Association of University Teachers expressed concern<\/a> about how the Conservative Party’s commitment could impact federal funding for research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a recent interview with The Canadian Press<\/a>, the association’s president Peter McInnis said: “When you get politicians saying they’re going to come in and interfere with this on some basis of, I don’t know, ideological issues or political expediency, that’s the concern.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

McInnis said the word “woke” is now “so vague … that it could mean anything. It just means things that they don’t agree with.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou can see the concerted attacks right against a whole slew of American universities by the Trump administration,\u201d he said. \u201cSo anything like that happening in Canada would be very destructive.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The use of the term “woke” in a political context originates with Black activists in the United States in the early- to mid-20th century and used as a term of vigilance, calling for greater public awareness of racial discrimination.The term has been used within Black communities in North America for decades, it gained prominence in the wider public discourse during the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement.In the years following, people started applying the term more broadly to awareness of other social issues, such as sexism, poverty and the challenges facing LGBTQ + people.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Pierre Poilievre the Great Dominion’s aspiring prime minister, leader of the federal Conservative party and devoted anti progressive took to the podium at the local ANTI WOKE FOLK CLUB and was quoted as saying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWoke is designed to divide people by race, by gender, by ethnicity, by religion, by vaccine status, and any other way they can divide people into groups.Then you can justify having a government that can control all those groups. We need freedom.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pierre Poilievre and many on the political right apply the term woke as a pejorative and are proud Anti Woke Folk Club members.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
