(max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In interviews, three former and current UCP senior political staffers told <em>The Tyee<\/em> how the <strong>premier\u2019s office<\/strong> instructed staffers to delete emails, use personal phones to conduct government business, and communicate through Slack and WhatsApp channels that are regularly wiped. \u201cThe directive would come from <strong>the premier\u2019s office staff<\/strong> during regular weekly and daily meetings, reminding everyone to ensure that they\u2019re up to date on their \u2018records management,\u2019\u201d one former senior staffer said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c\u2018Records management\u2019 was code for deleting emails.\u201d Another senior staffer said they understood the unwritten directive was to \u201cdelete everything, to have no records\u201d so that nobody could get any of our information.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sean Holman, a University of Victoria journalism professor and FOIP expert, said he was disappointed but not shocked by the Kenney government\u2019s attitude toward freedom of information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cThis is part and parcel of an overall trend, both in Alberta and across Canada, as governments have become more secretive, less open \u2014 and
