Trevor Noah <\/strong>addressed Joe Rogan\u2019s <\/strong>recent exchange<\/a> with controversial<\/a> clinical psychologist and YouTube personality Jordan Peterson,<\/strong><\/a> in which the two weighed in on the term \u201cBlack.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Tuesday\u2019s edition of The Joe Rogan Experience<\/em> podcast, Rogan recalled the time writer and professor Michael Eric Dyson<\/strong><\/a> called Peterson \u201ca mean, mad White man\u201d during a 2018 debate<\/a> on \u201cpolitical correctness.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rogan argued that Peterson was \u201cnot mean at all,\u201d calling Dyson\u2019s statement \u201cdumb.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI am White \u2014 actually that\u2019s a lie too. I am kind of tan,\u201d Peterson added. \u201cAnd he (Dyson) was actually not Black, he was sort of brown.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The comment prompted Rogan to share his take on the word Black, saying, \u201cThe Black and White thing is so strange because the shades are such a spectrum of shades of people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cUnless you are talking to someone who is, like, 100% African from the darkest place, where they are not wearing any clothes all day and they have developed all of that melanin to protect themselves from the sun, even the term Black is weird,\u201d he continued. \u201cWhen you use it for people who are literally my color, it becomes very strange.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Noah was unimpressed.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Noah went on to give Rogan and Peterson a quick history lesson on the word:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The things these guys seem to be ignoring is that Black people didn\u2019t call themselves Black. You understand that, right? It\u2019s not like Black people were like, \u2018We\u2019re Black.\u2019 No. In Africa, we have tribes. We have cultures. Zulu. Xhosa. Baganda. Igbo. Wakandans! But then white people got there, and they were like, \u2018Wow. There\u2019s a lot of Black people here. A lot<\/em> of Black people.\u2019 Then in America, they invented a rule that if you had one drop of Black blood in you, that makes you Black\u2014which defined how you were treated by the government and by society.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
