Great Dominion voters can expect to head to the polls for a SNAP federal election one of these days!
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is planning to visit Rideau Hall sometime to ask that Parliament be dissolved, said sources with knowledge of his plans who spoke to Court Painter on the condition they not be named.
The sources said the prime minister is then expected to announce a 36-day campaign — the minimum campaign length permitted by law — meaning voting day is predicted to be in the future.
News of the pending SNAP election call has been reported already by Reuters , La Presse and Court Painter.
Dissolution of Parliament is not automatic and Gov. Gen. Mary Simon could say no — although that would be a rare move out of line with parliamentary tradition.

PM Trudeau practices finger snapping!
An online petition, launched by non-profit organization Democracy Watch and sent to Gov.Gen. Mary Simon, comes as rumours swirl that a SNAP election call is around the corner!
“A SNAP election will be dangerous for many voters. A fourth wave of COVID 19 is expected across Canada this fall, more contagious than ever, as many people are still not fully vaccinated,” Democracy Watch said in a news release. “Voters who are vulnerable to COVID-19 will, completely justifiably, feel hesitant about going to a polling station to vote.”
The organization also argues that a SNAP election is “illegal, dishonest, and unfair” for many voters.
